Earth Month 2011:

Kurt CobbWorking with the Chelsea District Library, we presented the following:

March 24: Book discussion on "Prelude" by Kurt Cobb.  Prelude is a novel about a young energy analyst who discovers a top-secret report that sheds light on how dire things are with the world's oil reservers, and must decide whether to warn the world and risk her career. See review. The Library Skyped Kurt Cobb in on the discusion.

April 12: Craig Toepfer, author of "The Hybrid Electric Home - Clean, Efficient, Profitable" and Chelsea resident, presented the past, present, and future of electricity in America. A historical tour from discovery to ubiquity with a special focus on Charles Kettering’s farm electric plant and the wind electric industry of the 1920’s and 30’s served as the basis to examine the present and imagine the future. A study of how we supply and use electricity today leads to methods for homes, businesses, and communities to use wind, solar, and natural energy to improve national energy efficiency and economic security as we transition to tomorrow’s clean energy economy.

April 14: Showing of stunningly beautiful Disney/BBC movie entitled "Earth", about one life in the lives of creatures that share our planet.

April 21: Kurt Cobb, author of "Prelude", see above, we discussed peak oil.

April 23: John Richter discussed how alternative energy is not only good for the planet, it is actually economically feasible.
